Song No #26 Thánh Ca Dân Chúa, English Missal
Because the Lord is my shepherd,
I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in the meadow and leads me
to the quiet streams.
He restores my soul and he leads me
in the paths that are right:
Lord, you are my shepherd,
you are my friend.
I want to follow you always,
just to follow my friend.
And when the road leads to darkness,
I shall walk there unafraid.
Even when death is close I have courage,
for your help is there.
You are close beside me with comfort,
you are guiding my way:
In love you make me a banquet
for my enemies to see.
You make me welcome, pouring down honor
from your mighty hand,
and this joy fills me with gladness;
it is too much to bear:
Your goodness always is with me
and your mercy I know.
Your loving kindness strengthens me always
as I go through life.
I shall dwell in your presence forever,
giving praise to your name:

When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, “Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands! (Mk 6:2)
(Mc 6, 2)
Before I was received into the RC Church, I went to the Society of St Gregory Summer School. At one of the masses it was decided that everyone (80 people) would stand in a circle and receive communion at the same time.
The priest came round giving out the host, but passed me by because he knew I was not Catholic. Before everyone was able to receive the Body of the Lord, a woman across from me, Eileen Faux, could not bear it that I was not going to be able to receive.
She broke the circle and walked over to me. Breaking her host in half she said, “The Body of Christ”. Her act of Eucharistic hospitality had a powerful effect on me and was a large stepping stone in my journey to becoming Catholic.
Some years later I was in Chicago, USA, when a phone message came to say that Eileen had died very suddenly. I went to my room and in her memory wrote ‘Because The Lord Is My Shepherd’ in twenty minutes.
‘In love you make me a banquet…you make me welcome…and this joy fills me with gladness, it is too much to bear!’
I am honored that this piece may find a place in the hearts of people in Vietnam. I hope all who sing it will feel God close to them as they ‘go through life’.
